Why I Decided to Start My Own Business

From the outside, it probably looked like I had no reason to start a business. You see, I had a stable, secure job with a clear path to promotion. For many, that would fulfill their dream—predictability, security, and recognition. So, the question then becomes: Why would I choose the uncertainty and stress of starting something on my own?

When you're over 50, you begin to see life through a different lens. You've lived long enough to know that nothing is guaranteed. I once held a protected government job, proudly serving as a supervisor for 7 years. And then, in the blink of an eye, it was over, I was downsized. I had to start again. From scratch. I went from managing a department to sitting behind the front desk as a receptionist, yet all the while holding my dream of rebuilding my career one step at a time. That downsizing experience shook me—but it also taught me something invaluable. The realization of starting over made one thing crystal clear: I couldn’t put all my security in someone else’s hands again!

I needed a Plan B—something that wouldn’t disappear overnight. I wanted something I could nurture and grow, something grounded in my values, my pace, and my vision. A space where I could bring together my experience, determination, and care. So, I created my own business. Not as a backup plan, but as a lifeline. It’s not just a way to earn a living—it’s my way of reclaiming control, of building something meaningful that my family and I can rely on. This journey has been both humbling and empowering all at once. And though the path is far from easy, it’s mine. And that makes all the difference.

And I believe this is only the beginning. I have big hopes for what this business can become—steadily growing into something strong and sustainable, rooted in service, integrity, and heart. I look forward to the day when I can look back and say, yes, this is the legacy I built with my own hands.
